My story started with signing a bookstore, and that really opened my eyes to a whole new world of personal development and designing my own success. Seeing that one sign, one time in a bookstore, it eventually led me to discover that sometimes we think we're successful, but what's really going on is successful. Hi, my name's Mo Salami, and welcome to Purpose Driven Success Podcast. For many years I measured success the way that I was taught titles, paychecks, promotions, and academia, you know, working very hard and playing very little. Outwardly, life looked so perfect, but on the inside, I felt really disconnected for myself and from why I was even doing any of it. Has that ever happened to you? Have you ever found yourself in a similar situation where the outward trappings of success just didn't align with how you felt on the inside? I didn't even notice at the time, but over time, overworking and pivotal choices really forced me to ask the hard questions, not just about what I do, but why I do it. And those moments, they really reshaped how I think about success, performance, and purpose. And they ultimately led me here to this podcast. So this is the first episode, and it's not about having all the answers, it's about orientation. By the end of this episode, you'll know three things. Who I am, what this podcast is really about, and where we're going to together. Future episodes, they'll dig deeper into things like mindset and skill set and the inner mechanics of high performance driven by purpose. Today it's all about starting a journey and laying the foundation for everything that comes next. If you've ever thought to yourself, I've done everything that I was supposed to, or I've got all the success that I thought I wanted, but something still feels a little bit off. You're not alone. This podcast exists for conversations just like that. So earlier on, I introduced you to one of my quotes. I call them Moisms, and here it is again. Sometimes we think we're successful, but what's really going on is successful. And that's a word I made up, by the way, successful. What if you could have success that's in line with your purpose and on your terms as well? So, first off, who am I? Who's Mo Salami? Let's step a little bit further into my story because to fully understand who I am, it's important that I share where I've been. Do you understand where I'm coming from? Because understanding how I got here explains why this show exists. So the turning point to my story was seeing a sign. And before we get to the sign, I'll give this some context. So I did that. I got three degrees, and I started my career in the medical and the healthcare field. I bought a nice house in a nice neighborhood, and I got a nice car. The challenge was my nice six-figure salary. I mean, I was working not very nice, 16-hour days. I had no experiences, no free time, no me time, which brings me nicely to the sign. So one day I'm in a bookstore in central London and I see a sign and the sign says, How to be successful. Has that ever happened to you? Have you ever come across a moment or an experience that completely shifted your perspective on what true success really means? Let's go back in time. So I was on the fourth floor, or maybe it was a fifth floor of a bookstore in central London, and when you step out of the lift or the elevator, in every single direction you just see books. The bookstore was really well laid out and lots of space and well lit and there were comfortable sofas to sit and read. There were those really long tables to sit and study, or if you prefer, beanbags on the floor to sink into as you sink into your book simultaneously. This was just a perfect environment for any bookworm. And I remember people were sat on the four seat of comfortable sofas that were dotted around the library, book in hand, and some were reading the content intently, and others were content flicking through casually. There were some people, maybe they were in between chapters, and they were staring out of the window, looking down towards the street level, at the hundreds, probably thousands of London tourists, locals, and workers below, simultaneously enjoying their break in London, or else dashing through the streets back to work because their lunch break was almost over. In the book door, they were just aisle after aisle of books, just like in a supermarket, but they have aisle after aisle of food. Except these are not tins or packets, these were hardbacks or paperbacks. Nobody was whispering, but everybody's voice was sufficiently low as if the signal I get it. This is our collective quiet place. There was a bakery on a sixth floor, so the air had this pleasant aroma of pasties and pastries and patisseries mixed in with lattes and coffees and smoothies. They had all the best cakes up there no raison, points chocolat, and Belgian buns. You could almost taste the food, even though you haven't gone upstairs yet to place your order. But you will once you finish the chapter that you're reading. The carpet was really thick, so my shoes, or probably I was wearing trainers, didn't make any sound as I headed towards a vacant seat on one of the four seated couches. And that's when I saw it. The sign. The sign read How to Be Successful. My first thought at the time was But I'm already successful. Because the genuine worldview I had at the time was that academia equals success. To achieve a bunch of degrees or qualifications meant you've achieved the pinnacle of success. Little did I know. This how to be successful sign, it was an ad for a book called The Success Principles by Jack Canfield. A book about personal development. So I read every single book listed in the back of the success principles. And the fork in the road I had was do I go all in, discover more about actual success? Or do I stick to my path of apparent success I was already on? Now, of course, if you up level your skills, you up level your options. So I did that. I invested for thousands of hours and many tens of thousands of dollars learning from the best in the world. I traveled everywhere. I traveled to Europe, to the USA, Canada, and Asia. And from the best in the world, I gained expertise in online business, sales and marketing, personal development, and public speaking. The question that was guiding me was what is actual success? I even went to work for Tony Robbins as a senior mentor, a role that included high-ticket consultative selling. Whilst working for Tony Robbins, I did tens of millions of dollars of sales of his programs. And one of the highlights that I'm still proud of till today was doing a million dollars of sales in 90 days. Because I'd up-leveled my skills, I gave myself the option to add tons of value as a mentor and as a coach to tons of high achievers. And I realized that actual success is when you decide what success means for you. And parent success is when somebody else decides what success means for you. Between improving your skill set and improving your mindset, you can design your ideal lifestyle the way that you want it. You can achieve purpose-driven success on your terms. So we covered act number one, if you will, who I am, the who. The second part of this episode, act number two is the what. And specifically, what is this podcast really about? This podcast is about purpose driven success. Not applause, contribution, not trophies, growth. I created this space to explore the mindsets and the skill sets that help people define their purpose, overcome obstacles, and perform at their very best, not in spite of challenges, but through challenges. And I realize we all have stories that are worth learning from. Not just my story, your story, and the voices of the incredible guests that I have joining us in our future episodes. And that brings us to you. What does this mean for you? On this podcast, purpose driven success with Mo Salami, that's me. You can expect real stories of transformation, not just Polish success, but turning points. Also actionable insights that you can start applying today. And clarity and confidence in your own path that will develop with time as you hear the different stories and the strategies. Naturally, you'll implement that into your own world. So where you're at right now, maybe you're feeling stuck, or maybe you're on the edge of a shift. Maybe you're redefining success itself. Maybe you're quote, successful, unquote, you want the next level. Wherever you are, this podcast will meet you there. That leads me to a moment that really changed everything for me. The shift happened in my life when I stopped chasing only outcomes. I started to match outcomes with alignment. Instead of what can make me even more successful, the question was just how can I add even more value? What will make me feel an aliveness, even more alive? That question was so simple, but so comfortably uncomfortable at the same time because it changed how I made decisions, how I measured progress, and crucially how I showed up consistently every single day. And that sits at the heart of this podcast. So what did I have to overcome to get to where I am today? What I had to overcome was the weight of expectation and the pressure to follow the sensible path, you know, the path that looks great on paper, path that looked fable and sensible. I was doing it, I was achieving all the milestones that I was supposed to be. I was ticking off all the boxes, collecting the qualifications, and literally collecting awards as well. I've been told my entire life that I'm quite resilient, so I probably didn't notice it properly at the time. But inside I felt like I was slowly just drifting away from myself. I remember one day leaving home in the morning and it was just so dark. And getting home really late at night, like 16 hours later, and it was just so dark. And I gently closed the front door completely exhausted after another really long day. And as I shut the front door, click, I knew that on some level I'm choosing a lifestyle design that doesn't belong to me. Most people wait for permission. And because I am most people, I waited for permission, the sign, right? What shifted everything for me was mastering two things. My skill set, i.e., what I can genuinely contribute to the world by really mastering that. Remember, for me it was online business, sales and marketing, personal development and public speaking. That was my skill set. What can change everything for you is mastering and taking to the next level and adding more value with your skill set. The second part that shifted everything for me was mastering my mindset. Specifically, what I believed was possible for my future, what I believed was possible for me to create and add value with. When those two things aligned, my skill set and my mindset, every single thing after that started to change. And that's what purpose-driven success really is. It's not just the podcast or a show. Purpose-driven success is a movement about building a life and a business that feels meaningful to you, not just impressive from the outside to everyone else. And creating a life and a business and a lifestyle design that really fuels you instead of draining you. And the takeaway is simple. Ask yourself whether the life that you're building right now is truly yours, or is it shaped by somebody else's expectation? Your answer to that question will change absolutely everything. Mastering your skill set, mastering your mindset. Combined, this gives you such a strong foundation for purpose-driven success. And if you prioritize your fulfillment, this gives you such a strong foundation for a meaningful life. So here's another Moism. I gave you a Moism at the top of this episode, right? Here's one more. So grab a pen, grab a paper, get ready to write this down. Most people get comfortable living a lifestyle they loathe. Very few people get uncomfortable to design a lifestyle they love. And what does this mean for you? Well I'll answer that with another Moism, another quote from Mo Salami, which is this you can curate the lifestyle that you wish to create. How do you curate this? How do you design this? How does one curate the lifestyle they wish to create? That question led me to a three-step pathway. Three steps that can also guide you to purpose driven success. Success on your terms, your way. So step number one of the three-step pathway to purpose driven success is mindset. Work on your mindset. Step number two is skill set. Work on your skill set. Step number three is momentum. Always move in the direction of the result you want before you see the result you want. These are deliberate steps to help you grow your impact, grow your fulfillment, and grow your purpose. And it isn't theory. This is actionable. And every single time you hear an episode, you get to explore these steps through stories and insights and experiences so you can start applying them for yourself. This work, the intention is that it empowers you by giving you the permission slip. Permission slip in your left hand, the roadmap to design purpose-driven success you truly want in your other hand, not success that they think you should have. So here you are. Here's the permission slip. Remember, actual success is self-defined. You get to define what actual success means for you. Your parent success is externally defined by someone else. And if you're able to define what purpose-driven success means for you, failure becomes feedback. And it gives momentum to your mission. Do me a favor, open the permission slip I just gave you. Just see what it says. It says, step number one, work on your mindset. Step number two, work on your skill set. Step number three, always move in the direction of the result you want before you see the result you want. So starting with your with your mindset. So mindset, skill set showing up daily, as I mentioned, that decides your long-term success. When I look back at every single high performer that I've coached, and I've coached thousands at this point, entrepreneurs, consultants, leaders, people scaling online businesses. I found that long-term success always came down to those three things mindset, skill set, and showing up daily. If you miss one of these steps, eventually things will store. Imagine what life would be like if you mastered all three of those steps. Literally, for you, success becomes inevitable. And you can align your success with who you actually are. So let's break this down properly with some real examples. With the mindset, results are won or lost before the action taken begins. There's a reason that mindset is often said to be 80%, some even say 90% or more of your results. I once worked with a founder who had the strategy in place, the audience in place, and they had their offer dialed in. On paper, everything made sense. But every time they had a launch, it followed the same pattern. Hesitation, second guessing, pulling back just before momentum kicked in. Nothing was wrong with the business, but what was running the show, running their business was their subconscious. Joseph Murphy talks about this in the power of your subconscious mind. He says your subconscious mind accepts whatever the conscious mind repeatedly impresses upon it and then works to make it real. Said differently, whatever your input is into your mind tends to be what the output becomes. So in this case, the dominant input was I don't want to be seen as salesy, or what if this doesn't work again? Or I need to be even more qualified to get even more qualifications before I scale my business. We had to make a shift. Once we shifted the inputs with things like daily identity priming, intentional language and decision making from the future self, the behavior changed. Within six months, revenues increased by 42%. Not because we changed the funnel, but because they finally executed consistently and confidently. The one clear point here is that your subconscious beliefs determine how you act under pressure. This matters for you as an entrepreneur because strategy only works when your nervous system and your identity allows you to follow through. If your mindset isn't aligned, you'll self-sabotage, even the best plans. But what about skillset? Skill set, you know, part two of this framework is an interesting one. And again, your confidence grows the more competent you get. If you're the best in the world, or you're, you know, pretty much better than you were, you know, this time last year, let's say it that way, you're going to be even more confident because you're more competent. Mindset alone doesn't scale a business, skill scales a business. Approach a consultant who believed that they had imposter syndrome. It wasn't imposter syndrome. What they actually had was a skill gap, specifically in messaging and sales conversations. Once we could focus on building, you know, clear value articulation, simple sales frameworks, qualifying their clients better. Something very, very interesting happened. Their confidence didn't need to be worked on anymore because it emerged naturally. And within 90 days, we'd increase the close rate from 20% to closer to 35%. Average client value increased by 30%. And the sales calls were no longer draining, they were energizing. The clear point here is that skill reduces friction. And it's friction that tends to kill off momentum. It's matter to you as an entrepreneur because at every single stage, starter, growth, scaling, the game changes. New levels demand new skills. And if you don't intentionally upgrade your skill set, you'll eventually cap your results. So after mindset and skill set, let's add the the pierce de resistance, which is momentum, momentum from showing up daily. Momentum is the real competitive advantage. Momentum is also the least glamorous and the most powerful pillar. Everyone loves the idea of breakthroughs. Very few people will commit to that daily execution. I worked with an online business owner who stopped chasing the big wins and instead committed to improvement and improving by 1% every single day. Making improvements to their content, to their conversations, systems, leadership. Maybe a 1% improvement doesn't sound like much. Mathematically, improving by 1% every single day makes you 37 times better by the end of the year. So what happened? After 12 months, revenues more than doubled. A team's performance stabilized and stress went down because the decisions that were being made were no longer reactive. It wasn't magic. There was no magic wand. They just took the decision to show up, even when motivation wasn't there. And especially on the days they didn't feel like it. But one clear point here is this momentum compounds faster than talent. And this matters for you as an entrepreneur because consistency builds trust, builds trust with your audience, builds trust with your team, builds trust with yourself. If you can show up every single day, this removes relying on motivation and replaces it with inevitability. So bring this all together, you know, long-term success that's aligned with your purpose doesn't come from hack. It comes from a mindset that supports growth instead of resisting growth. A skill set that matches the level that you want to play at. And that discipline, that momentum of showing up every single day, even when no one's watching. This is the framework I'll keep coming back to on this podcast. Does it work? I've seen it. It works across industries and across different stages and different seasons of business. And if you're willing to master these three pillars, success stops being a question of if and becomes a matter of when. If this framework resonates with you, mindset, skill set, and showing up daily, this podcast is going to feel like home for you. Welcome home. In future episodes, I'll be diving deeper into each pillar, like I mentioned, with real-world strategies, client case studies, and tools that you can apply to your life and to your business. And I don't want you to miss out. So here's my invitation to you. Subscribe to the podcast, Purpose Driven Success with Mo Salami. Listen to the podcast with intention. And ask yourself that question: who do I need to become today to match where I'm going tomorrow? Because when your identity, your skills, and your actions align, long-term success stops being accidental and starts becoming inevitable. And you already know that by believing you, the potential of a human being is unlimited. So what would it look like for you to start applying these principles of mindset and skill set and momentum in your own life? What would life look like for you? So that brings us to the third part of this episode. You know, we've covered act number one, who am I, the who? Act number two, what is this podcast really about? The what? So the third part of this podcast, act three, is the where and specifically where we're going to together. Looking ahead, this podcast will bring you real conversations with purpose-driven achievers. I'll be interviewing founders, entrepreneurs, artists, leaders, thinkers, and also everyday people doing extraordinary work. And during our conversations, we're going to explore how they discovered their purpose, what challenges they had, and how it reshaped them, and also what practices they do that help them stay grounded, focused, and effective. Of course, we'll dive into topics like resilience and creativity, leadership, meaning and high performance, always through the lens of purpose. You'll hear their stories and life lessons and actionable tips. And the great news is you can start applying them today as well, not someday. So ultimately, this show is about helping you turn your talent into purpose-driven success on your terms, achieving the exact results you want. Not just that, but finding fulfillment along the journey as well. Before we close out, let's pause for the three key takeaways from today. So one takeaway from today that I hope you get is improving your skill set and improving your mindset is the pathway to purpose-driven success on your terms. Another takeaway, which is also a Moism, is always move in the direction of the results you want before you see the result you want. And the third takeaway is doing the best you can consistently eventually leads to exponential results. These aren't just abstract ideas, these are guides for how you can start thinking, deciding, and acting differently, starting from today. I want to leave you with a few closing thoughts. A few things to remember, a few moisms to ponder. First one is this most people stay comfortable living a lifestyle they loathe. Very few people get uncomfortable to design a lifestyle they love. Having said that, I want you to remember the next Moism, which is you can curate the lifestyle that you wish to create. If you can ground your life in meaning, every single step you take becomes a step towards yourself. It becomes a step towards the lifestyle that you want to design your way, and a step towards the purpose-driven success that you want to attain, in addition to the joy that you want to have on that journey. And remember the three-step path mindset, skill set, momentum.
